View Full Version : MapleDomains.ca - coming soon

So I have decided to launch a new website called MapleDomains.ca

It will list only .ca and .com domains for sale

There will be strict guidelines....

It must be a Canadian Themed domain, ie have something like Maple, Canadian, Canada, Canadian Geographical location etc in the name.

It will be very highly specialized to Canadian Companies or services, names like...

etc etc

It will allow people to list for free but will ask for a 10% Commission up to a maximum of $1000 should we facilitate the sale.

Opinions or feedback please

PS. I just registered the domain so nothing to see yet.

I also want to talk to the administrators of this site to become the official forum link for the new site when it launches. I think it would be a natural mesh and should bring more traffic here.

Again only an idea, what do you think?

I like the idea but I don't think you should limit it to certain domains.

You should be more lenient since there are probably about 20,000 domains that exist with your guidelines. I am sure close to half would be already developed. So, you would have a very small market.

Take a look at http://www.domaincommerce.ca/ ... nice script and free. Unfortunately it is very difficult to start a Canadian Marketplace.

I'm only doing it as a hobby site and I won't make a penny unless I help facilitate a sale. Clients would be welcome to list their domains in many places but my site will be the place to come to see any names with the words Canada etc in it.

I want to launch it because I love collecting the domains myself and I will leave it up to other people to list other type of domains. You would be surprised how much money a highly specialized site can make. I did it before and my previous site had around 9 million visitors per month. It was a Canadian Automotive Site specializing in one brand. So you see being highly specialized can be successful.

Let me know when it launches. I don't have much experience in niche domains that contain Canada/Maple etc. I am not sure how big the market is out there for it.

On a side note... I like the feature at CIRA where you can type a word and it tells you how many .CA's start with that word or letter etc. For example here is Maple.

Your previous WHOIS search produced the following list of domain names that begin with maple.

Click the domain name to view its WHOIS data:

maple-bare.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-bare.ca)

maple-bonds.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-bonds.ca)

maple-casino.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-casino.ca)

maple-creek.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-creek.ca)

maple-delights.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-delights.ca)

maple-ds.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-ds.ca)

maple-erable.qc.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-erable.qc.ca)

maple-hill.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-hill.ca)

maple-key.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-key.ca)

maple-leaf.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-leaf.ca)

maple-lng.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-lng.ca)

maple-market.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-market.ca)

maple-metals.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-metals.ca)

maple-mitsubishi.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-mitsubishi.ca)

maple-moon.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-moon.ca)

maple-reinders.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-reinders.ca)

maple-ridge-florist.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-ridge-florist.ca)

maple-sap.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-sap.ca)

maple-shade.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-shade.ca)

maple-syrup.ca (http://www.dnc.ca/?domain=maple-syrup.ca)

1045 domain names in the CIRA registry begin with maple. Only the first 20 are displayed. To narrow your search, enter a longer domain name or add the .ca extension to the end of the domain name that you enter into the domain name field above.

We would have strict rules and hyphens would not be allowed.

It will be made to be small, lean and mean on purpose, it's not meant to be big business but a small hobby site.

Did you read my second post in this Thread?

Yes sorry, missed it initially. That wouldn't be a problem.

So I tossed up a really rough web page, I'll probably switch to a white background but it will get you an idea of what I will be doing. Please keep in mind this will only be a hobby site and will feature specific Canadian themed domains for both .ca and .com.

I will register some new names soon and who knows maybe I'll get lucky with a few and come up with some buyers.

In other words... I'm going to dabble juuuuuuuust a little bit in the domain name business

Done for now...

Now all I have to do is buy some domains and I'm all set

I like your Maple domains... kinda catchy. Hearing MapleDomains for the first time, I would actually think it could be a .ca registrar.

10-04-2011, 06:09 AM
I offered that domain to this forum, I thought it had a .ca registrar flavour.

I'm just dabbling a bit with it but you never know what can develop. I kinda thought it had a strong Canadian Presence.

10-04-2011, 10:36 AM
so i can't sell YankeePride.ca on your site?

10-04-2011, 12:17 PM
HeHeHe, you could always list it on StarsAndStripes.us :D

Sorry, couldn't resist that one. The official answer would be no, I'm planning on making it a site where people will go if they want a domain that has Canada, Canadian, Maple, Geographical or any other Canadian theme.

I think there is room for a website that is highly specialized in that and my goal is to list as many of these targeted domains as possible.

I have MBCanada.com for instance which was actually the old Manitoba Tourism domain.

Once I get the word out anyone with similar type of domains can list free. I don't plan on charging anything until the website is well established and even then it will be a very small listing fee with no commissions upon sale. I'm doing more for fun than for profit but I really would love to show all the nay sayers that there is room for small targeted websites in the domain field.

If I had a furniture company I would love a website that lists all the available furniture domains, it would sure simplify things.

If I had a furniture company I would love a website that lists all the available furniture domains, it would sure simplify things.

I've actually stumbled across a few niche-portfolio sites like that. The only problem is nobody knows about them unless you land on it by accident through a Google search.

The problem is, the general public might not even know about a large site like Sedo if they were thinking of looking for an aftermarket domain, let alone a niche marketplace like one specifically for furniture or anything else

It would take a significant amount of marketing to get the word out...

Maybe we need a site that lists all the other domain listing sites. This way we would have a master alphabetical relist service.

Just a thought.... so who is going to develop?

10-04-2011, 09:06 PM
Yea, we can always start dedicating a list on websites that list domains for sale. Like a resource centre in the beginner section.

Sort of like in our beginners section where we list top web resources http://www.dnc.ca/showthread.php?1587-Beginners-Resource-top-350-web-resources

10-05-2011, 08:59 PM

Actually thanks for the reminder - that list by Dropwizard was quite useful. I had bookmarked it but it got lost in the hundreds of other sites on my list, lol

I just bought 30 premium .ca domains, I cannot believe how many good ones are still available. I manged to snag some incredible .com's as well. I will be listing them soon, I need to procure a few more and I don't want to give things away before I get all of them.
