Vancouver-based Chinese language news website Taiyangbao.ca is seeing rapid audience growth, hitting more than 500,000 page views per month and climbing since its launch in December.

Readers are consuming content at a voracious rate, with page views growing nearly 25 per cent in the last 30 days alone.

Taiyangbao.ca is a Chinese-language website powered by The Vancouver Sun newsroom for British Columbia's Chinese-Canadian community. It’s proving to be a winner just four months into its existence.

“Clearly we’re satisfying a need,” says Harold Munro, Acting Editor in Chief of the Vancouver Sun. “Helped by The Sun and our large newsroom – the largest in Western Canada -- Taiyangbao.ca is uniquely positioned to provide the best local and international news to a very important demographic.”

Taiyangbao.ca has strengthened its content by also partnering with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the Chinese journalists who work with the Vancouver-based social service and immigrant settlement agency.

A multi-media marketing campaign was launched last month to increase awareness of the site which included radio ads on local Cantonese and Mandarin stations featuring well-known Chinese community personalities.

Taiyangbao.ca has Vancouver journalists working in Chinese on the site, seven days a week. It also has added content from Bloomberg News and Agence France Press and continues to grow its team of prominent Vancouver bloggers.

The website is a growing force in Chinese-language social media, with several thousand followers on Sina Weibo and a presence on Facebook.
